Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect for my first appointment?

When you make your first appointment, the receptionist will let you know how to dress according to what treatment the doctor prescribes (Example: for Aquatic Therapy you would wear a modest swim suit; however, for land therapy, suggested clothing may be athletic shorts, sweat pants etc.) For you first visit you will meet one on one with your Physical Therapist. They will evaluate your problem, ask you questions about the injury, and finally set up some goals that both you and therapist decide can be reached by the end of your prescribed therapy visits. This is also a great time for you to get any un-answered questions taken care of! At Payne-Murphy we want you to be worry-free about your visits and your therapist wants you to feel good about the care you receive!

Will insurance cover my physical therapy?

Most insurance plans will provide coverage for physical therapy. We are providers for most major PPO’s, Medicare and Worker’s Compensation; please call us anytime if you have questions regarding a specific insurance plan. If you are not covered by insurance we do offer a special cash-basis arrangement.

Do I need a prescription?

In California you must referred by your physician in order for physical therapy to be covered by insurance. You may download a prescription sheet here and take it with you on your next appointment.

Can a child be treated by a physical therapist?
Yes, we treat patients of all ages! Ask your pediatrician if physical therapy is a good choice for your child’s care.
